Lego Orchid: The Best of the Lego Plant Sets

The Lego Orchid was a fun Lego set to build. Unlike the globe, there wasn’t too much repetition with the Lego orchid set since there were only six flowers and a few stems. The final product was really beautiful and the cost was a bit high but it’s a Lego product so that’s, sadly, just a normal expectation.

Cost of Set

The Lego Orchid Set retails for around $50 USD. While not a cheap Lego set, it’s still not even close to the most expensive Lego sets out there. I mean, have you seen the price of the Lego Titanic set?! (In all honesty, I received this set as a gift so I didn’t actually pay for it.)

I think the orchid set does make a great gift for adults both young and old because it’s fun to build, it isn’t a $100+ set so you’re not completely breaking the bank and the final product is really nice to display.

Build

The number of pieces was not overwhelming and, per usual, the instruction booklet made the build pretty smooth sailing. I did, however, put the orchid petals on incorrectly the first time, but I was almost finished so I got overly excited and made the mistake.

Nothing was too repetitive in the actual building portion. If you’ve built the Lego globe, you may know how repetitive that build can be; this orchid was nothing like that. Even the repetition of building each stalk wasn’t too repetitive because each one was built at different heights and had random other pieces poking out.

The orchid flowers were the most repetitive portion but they were small and pretty and fun to build regardless of the repetitive nature.

The dirt takes little to no skill to create – just throw the pieces in the pot.

The dirt portion of the plant confused me somewhat – all you do is pretty much throw the extra brown pieces in at the bottom. It’s cool because then it makes it look like actual dirt and bark. But it felt structurally wrong to just throw Lego pieces together like that.

Is there any other Lego set where you just throw in random Lego pieces and call it done? I think I just like the satisfactory “snap” when pieces fit together so the dirt part was cool but also surprising.

Overall Enjoyment

Always fun to build, this Lego orchid set was no exception. It took me just a few hours to build and I wasn’t stressed in any portion of the construction. There were some small pieces but not nearly enough to get frustrating. I highly recommend this set.

Use of Final Product

Notice the pink frog?

From far away, many people have commented that the plant actually looks real. I love the little secret gem that is the pink frog in the middle of the orchid flower – yes! It’s a frog in the middle!

Overall this Lego Orchid set looks great in my house. Putting next to other art, setting on a desk or even just putting it on a bookcase adds color to a room without the need to actually water and keep the plant alive.

I’m really liking the Lego sets that are flowers like this orchid, the succulent or the bonsai tree. They’re really nice statement pieces that don’t look like classic square-built Lego structures.
