I was so excited to start building the Lego globe. I saw the pictures, I knew you were able to spin it once built, like a real globe, and I liked that it wasn’t immediately obvious it was made of Lego.

My ultimate goal was that I could put it in my office and people would not only think I am an intellectual with a globe but I’m also crafty because it’s made of Legos.

So let’s dive into how I’d rate the Lego Globe kit.

Cost of Kit

Ooh was this kit PRICEY and that was before the Summer / Fall increase of 2022. I paid $200 USD but it’s currently sitting at a price of $230. I also purchased this kit as a gift to myself for receiving my graduate degree because that’s what mature adults do…they buy Lego kits for themselves.

But once you actually start building, you realize why it’s at this price point – there are a lot of pieces; like 2,585 pieces. You think it’s just the outer globe, but the inner workings take up most of the build. So it may not look like you’re paying for too much, but, trust me, there are plenty of pieces that increase the price.

This is also one of those kits that you probably wouldn’t get for kids because they would not appreciate all $200+ of it. It’s expensive and this should be an ‘adults only’ build purely because of the price and number of pieces.

Build

Because you build a sphere, you have to build each little section that makes up the sphere….and oh boy, were there a lot of little sections. This was a repetitive build.

I tried to power through this build in one sitting and my fingers began to hurt. I didn’t even know it was possible that your fingers could hurt from clicking too many Legos together.

The inner workings of the globe are where the work really takes place. There are lots and lots of those long black stick pieces and you have to push them into other pieces. Wear thimbles, bandaids or winter gloves because your fingers will get their workout in and be raw by the end of the building session.

Overall Enjoyment

If you are able to get past the price point, I really liked this kit. While the repetition wasn’t super fun, the final product more than makes up for it. I also liked how accurate the map tries to be…well as accurate as it can be for very structured Lego pieces.

I do need to emphasize again, though, that it is a repetitive build. You wouldn’t be needing the directions for half the build since it’s all just the same.

Use of Final Product

This is a cool final globe. You can spin the globe, you can personalize it easily by adding in different Lego pieces to where you’ve visited, where you want to travel to or just to make the globe more colorful.

The globe would also be at home in an office space because of the richness of the brown and golden accents.
